I emerge from the cold water
onto the hot sand.
Looking over an infinite body of blue,
reminiscing your presence.
Feeling your absent warmth from the sun.
I look around,
hoping to catch a glimpse of a memory of us,
or maybe someone who I could mistake as you.
I will never see you again…
there will only be pieces of you in every person that I find.
digging in the sand to fulfill the emptiness in me,
using distractions to erase your embrace.
I find shells and like a child I’m amused
I’m happy for a moment, I’ve escaped my mind.
For a second I am free,
For a second I’ve paused reality.
