Every year The Globe tries and goes on a field trip to a local Fall festival. This year we all went to Summers Farm located in Middletown, MD just a little before downtown Fredrick. In this Article we will be talking about the activities that that had available to do as well as some of the food that was offered in their Country Market. Summer Falls offers a variety of treats and fall favorites including apple cider donuts, homemade chocolate chip cookies, caramel apples, kettle corn popcorn, honeys/jams, slushies, ice cream, hot chocolates, coffees, and many more! Their signature Country Market holds a majority of these items and is open on weekdays from 1pm to closing, and weekends from 10am to closing. They also carry fall souvenirs for all ages! You can find this shop in the red building after entering the farm on the left.
The team was able to try the clover jarred honey, pumpkin butter spread, and kettle corn popcorn. The apple cider donuts and caramel apples are their most popular purchases and sell out quickly.
The farm sells two types of jarred honey (one pound per jar); clover and wildflower. The clover honey is a lighter and sweeter option, while the wildflower honey is darker and offers a more rich and earthy taste. We chose to try the clover honey and found that it paired perfectly with a cup of hot tea or toast (specifically on top of peanut butter or a spread of choice!). It offered a natural sweetness to any food/drink selection. Summer Farms sources their honey from Brunswick, Burkittsville and Jefferson, Maryland.
We also tried their pumpkin butter spread (18 ounces per jar). They offer other jams and spreads such as apple butter (19 ounces per jar), whole cherry (20 ounces per jar), and triple crown (20 ounces per jar). All four products are produced by McCutcheon’s Apple Products, Inc. and are sourced directly from Historic Frederick, Maryland. The pumpkin butter spread offers a sugary, pumpkin spice flavor to any bread of choosing. The spread itself is smooth and easy to apply. Sprinkle some cinnamon, honey, jam, or eat it as so! It gives you the perfect fall snack for the season.
The mini chocolate chip cookies were also a favorite and gave a comforting taste of signature homemade cookies. These cookies are freshly made and are also sourced from Frederick, Maryland. They come in a small cup, perfect for sharing amongst kids and adults. They’re baked to be soft and not overly sweet. We found these to be best when they are slightly heated in the microwave, giving the cookies warmth and bringing out the richness fully. It is a go-to option for any sweet treat!
According to their website Summers Farm has over 45 activities to play ranging from inflatable bouse pads, to trying to lasso some metal cattle. The team had a lot of fun and they day that we went it wasn’t too crowded and we didn’t have to wait in line to play any of the activities. I think everyone’s favorite thing was being able to feed the life goats that they had. If you have a quarter you can turn a gumball machine that had goat feed instead of gumballs and feed some of the adult or baby goats that were behind the fence. There were many kids as well that had big smiling faces on when the goats would eat their food out of their tiny hands. Some other activities consist of Minigolf, Duck races, Apple Blasters, Jungle Gym, Mega Cornhole, A Ball Zone, and much more. If this is something that interest you then I would highly recommend to try them out. Their Fall festival has closed for the year but this an annual event so be ready head on down to Summers Farm!
