Rome Streetz links up with Buffalo producer Daringer to drop an underground classic on October 4, 2024, establishing another gem from the Griselda label.
As we near the end of 2024, there has been a variety of hip hop albums that have dropped by fan favorites such as Westside Gunn, Freddie Gibbs, ScHoolboy Q and more. All releases have received positive reception from the public as shades of “real” hip hop rear its head once again. As the mainstays get their flowers, underground artists pushing out music dom’t receive the attention that they would like; which is what brings us to our next point; underrated releases.
Queen’s rapper Rome Streetz has been on a spectacular run since signing with the Griselda label back in 2021, being able to showcase his unfathomable rhyming ability on a global scale. With hard hitting releases such as Kiss The Ring, Razors Edge, Death & The Magician as well as the Noise Kandy mixtape series, the Queen’s native has made it clear that the rap game is in his clutches and does not intend on letting up.
Deep in the Buffalo burrow we can find craftsmen of his work, only cementing his sound further with each release, Daringer has had a successful run in hip hop. As an established producer for the hip hop collective Griselda, Daringer continues to explore different ears with collaborative efforts with the likes of Mayhem Lauren, Action Bronson, Conway The Machine, etc, making his sound familiar among the hardcore rap scene.
With both musicians being under the same label umbrella, it was inevitable that the two would begin working on music together. Daringer’s grimey production complimented Rome Streetz’ verbal destruction as the two would form a strong chemistry. The rapper would tease work with the producer with snippets and photos sprinkled over social media since the summer of 2024. The lingering questions would quickly be answered by two singles: “Starbvxkz” and “Sage” featuring Californian rapper ScHoolboy Q. With the release of two singles, Rome Streetz would soon drop his anticipated Hatton Garden Holdup.
An LP of 14 songs, initially being 13 until an update was added to the album, adding a bonus song with Griselda’s front man Westside Gunn. The update was a pleasant surprise following the release of the project. Featuring a solid list of rappers, past and present(Conway The Machine, Cormega, ScHoolboy Q), Rome Streetz would set the tone of the project with his dreary wordplay, painting the cruel world around the listener. Rome Streetz takes the listener into a world of beautiful chaos as he illustrates the harsh reality of the drug business as well as the lonely road to success.
The artist would leave nothing desired as he would verbally attack the beats, showcasing a hunger that is missing from most modern rappers. Daringer’s production would excite fans of the hardcore rap scene; the production would be reminiscent of the producer’s earlier sound with the Griselda affiliates as Rome Streetz would take the opportunity to have some affiliates of the record label feature on some tracks.
As stated before, the pair would release a bonus song subsequently a week after the album’s debut. The song titled “Black Widow” would feature Westside Gunn over a looped piano sample with dusty drum kit percussion, The song would spark a small buzz in the underground hip hop community due to Daringer’s production style on the song. Due to Daringer’s lengthy history with the Griselda collective, we’ve seen the evolution of the production as it has become more refined and clean for the mainstream audience. Going back to his roots, Daringer would curate a beat that would remind underground hip hop fans where the sound all started as it was reminsicntent of the Griselda sound in 2018.
“ They Lifeless without devices, in this opioid crisis
K****d 23 fiends, the plug thought he had the right mix,
Sometimes, the money right. But it ain’t righteous,
Fightin’ with your vices, I used a box cutter to write this…”
- Rome Streetz
Rome Streetz would display effective wordplay on songs with lyrical heavyweights such as Conway The Machine on songs like “Pro Tip“ , showing that he is more than capable of keeping up with his peers. With his witty, unrelenting pace of lyrical prowess, mixing philosophy , religion and urban life into his songs, Daringer’s daunting production would amplify the rapper’s words to a higher scale.
Daringer’s production would lay out the feel of a foggy night being narrated over by Rome Streetz as the italian producer would form the feeling with a mixture of looped piano samples and distorted brass instrumentals and a variety of other elements. If you are someone who needs a small break from the mainstream sound and would like something a bit more “raw” look no further, pull up whatever streaming app you desire and immerse yourself in a unfamiliar world guided by a product of that environment , Rome Streetz as you explore business, philosophy, and gems of knowledge packaged in 16 lines.
With his consistent output we can expect something soon from the Queen’s native as he marks off another successful year as one of the top rappers of today’s era. With the future still bright, we can only wonder what else these two artists will come up with in the future.
