East Atlanta’s Yound Nudy drops his second installment of the Sl’imerre mixtape series with producer Pierre Bourne on Wednesday, November 15, 2024
Fans of the EA native have waited patiently for the release of Sli’mierre 2 after the first mixtape received critically acclaimed reviews. The first mixtape entailed a variety of beat selections that showed versatility in Pierre Bourne’s production as the self proclaimed ‘Slimeball” would slide across the instrumentals with provocative lyrics. The mixtape would be dropped on May 8, 2019 as it would feature artists, 21 Savage, Lil Uzi Vert, Megan Thee Stallion and Dababy.
Young Nudy would make his name known with consistency as he would drop projects such as the Slimeball mixtapes, Nudy Land, DR.EV4L and more. Paving a way for his witty and cold lyrics. Young Nudy would find himself in a lane of his own , gaining a loyal fan base over the 10 year span. With the help of his increasing popularity, Nudy and Pierre Bourne would collaborate on a full length project.
Pierre Bourne would garner mainstream attention with his beat production for albums such as Die Lit, Whole Lotta Red, Luv is Rage 2 and more. Each of the projects named would go on to receive a platinum certification, only furthering Pierre Bourne’s name as a producer to work with. Bourne would accommodate the first Sl’imierre project with a range of production on songs such as ‘Extendo’ , ‘Sunflower Seeds’ , Mister, as he would utilize more instrumentation such as flutes, pianos and more.
As midnight would hit and headphones were put on, fans would indulge in 47 minutes of bliss..or so they thought. Sli’mierre 2’s album direction seemingly had the right idea but was poorly executed . The production on Sli’mierre 2 would not have the same feel as the quality was seemingly watered down; almost coming off as a lazy effort. Each of the beats had similar pitch but had small differences in each, just not enough to find a distinct difference between each of the songs. From track one to track eight, the range of versatility would seemingly be limited as the mixtape would pick up towards the end of the project, leaving some fans wondering what went wrong.
Young Nudy would provide lyrics that would come off less immersive and somewhat uninterested on tracks such as “ Money” as the subject matter was self-evident. Despite having such a broad topic for a song, Nudy would confine himself in a bubble, limiting his lyrical ability and overall talent with repetitive lyrics and lack of enthusiasm . The lack of lyrical content would let down many as other songs such as ’10pc Teriyaki’ would be a saving grace for the project. Overall, the mixtape would receive mixed reviews as fans battled over the differences of both mixtape, questioning the discrepancy in quality. Fans fail to realize that the second installment took 5 years to put together..which would result in the evolution of sound within a 5 year span. Which leads us to the final point that artistic differences can happen as hip hop is constantly evolving.
Although the mixtape let down many, the project still had its redeeming qualities in songs like “ Splash” which emphasized Nudy’s lyrical ability as he talked on more sexual topics as Pierre Bourne would step up the production effort with harder 808’s, leaving fans wondering what led to the inconsistency. Nudy would have some moments towards the end of the album where it gave the listeners the Sli’mierre feel. Despite the project not living up to the hype, fans are still in large support of the East Atlanta rapper as they wait for something to cleanse their musician pallet.
