As a University of Maryland bound student, admitted students day is the first of many welcome events put together by the school that you will have the chance to attend. The event offers an opportunity to discover the resources the school has to offer and what prospective students can look forward to when attending the institution. The day starts off bright and early at 8:45 in the Stamp Student Union Building, where students and their guests are connected with the advising college for their respective fields of study. This session serves as an introduction to the event and is followed by a guided, in-depth exploration of each major within the college. Attendees should expect to be familiarized with the basic components of their major, presented by the chairperson of the program, and have the chance to participate in a Q&A with a graduate student.

From then on, you are able to build your own schedule filled with information sessions and open house tours on the Webex Events app. There are guides scattered across campus to help with any questions or requests you might have. Each guest receives a coupon to eat at one of the dining halls for a discounted price, and lunchtime is also up to you to decide. If you do not wish to eat at a
dining hall, there is a food court in the Stamp building with a wide variety of familiar restaurants.
Education Abroad
One of the sessions I had the chance to attend was the education abroad session, which discussed the wide variety of study abroad opportunities the University of Maryland has to offer. All students are assigned an education abroad advisor within their college of study to help ensure they remain on track for graduation. There are full semester- or year-long programs, as well as short-term programs that last from seven days to two months. Some countries even offer a lower cost of living than in the United States, resulting in a more affordable experience than staying on campus, and financial aid applies to UMD-sponsored programs. Additionally, there are a vast number of internal and external scholarships available to students. If you are interested in studying abroad while at UMD, be sure to check out the study abroad fair on campus in September.
Freshmen Connection
This information session only pertains to first-year students who have been admitted for the spring semester. Those students have the opportunity to attend in the fall as part of the Freshmen Connection program. This entails access to select classes from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. alongside other Freshmen Connectionstudents. This applies only to the first semester at UMD and does not impact
housing decisions. The courses offered are most often major requirements or general education classes, typically with smaller class sizes.
