Have you ever gone to a concert before? If you haven’t, you are missing out. The energy is immaculate, the people are super nice, and the band, or singer, singing their heart out to you makes it feel ever so special. Now, if you have gone to a concert before, then you know exactly what I am talking about. If not, go find your favorite band or just a singer that you enjoy listening to and see if they are on tour. If you can afford it, go, experience it because it is like nothing you have ever experienced before. My name is Christopher, and I just recently went to a concert by a band called The Rare Occasions. You may have heard of this band before and if you haven’t, maybe a song called “Notion” might ring a bell. This band is an indie band that played in a small club in the heart of DC called The Atlantis. Located right next to the famous club called the 9:30 Club.
Now with most concerts they had an opener that came out and her name was BEL. They were an amazing performeer who performed some of their original music, both old and new. They are an indie rock musician that has some English and her first multilingual song called Nos Despedimos. After them, The Rare Occasions came out with a bang. I mean, with drums booming, guitars roaring, and singing one of their new songs called “Mr. Bubbles.” They did a great job keeping their audience engaged going from heavy indie rock to slow emotional songs.
One song that highlighted for me was called “Strange World.” Now this song really stood out for me not just because it is an amazing world but it was whenealized what the song meant. Before they played the song, they mentioned the war that is happening in Palestine. “Now it is not political to talk about the war that is happening in the world, and the thousands of people that are dying. This song goes out to them.” The lead singer said. I thought that was very different to say then what a typical concert that you are going to that wants to take you away from the outdoor world for a bit. They wanted to do that but also highlight something major that is happening in the world.
One thing I say that is the same at almost every concert is they love to hear what you think about their music, and they do this in a very cool way. When they are winding down to their last four songs, they will say they have two more songs then end it early. Act like they are done to hear what you think. At this concert they didn’t play their two most famous songs, Origami and Notion. They left the stage acting like they were done and once they left everyone in the audience was yelling “ONE MORE SONG!” and “ENCORE!” After about 30 seconds, they came out and made a deal “IF WE PLAY TWO MORE SONGS, WE NEED YOU GUYS TO BRING THE MOST ENERGY YOU HAVE BROUGHT THIS ENTIRE CONCERT!” and we did. I was jumping up and down screaming the lyrics at the top of my lungs. I knew the next day my throat was going to hurt but you know that was a future Chris problem and guess what? I wasn’t the future Chris at that point.
As I mentioned before, if you haven’t gone to a concert before and have been on the fence for some time. Bite the bullet, go, enjoy yourself because you are going to love every second of it and want to go again over and over again. You will not regret it!
